The other day I took a trip to the Rogers store to check out the BlackBerry Bold. I was hoping that they would have a demo handset ready for me to check out… unfortunately, they did not!

Apple has demo iphones in mostly every store that it is sold. I asked the customer representative at the Rogers store why there wasn’t a demo handset and his response was: “with BlackBerry, people know what to expect.” That was the most lame excuse that I’ve ever heard. I have a BlackBerry and I don’t know what to expect with the Bold. I checked out the online videos but until I play with the phone (just like I would with a laptop at Best Buy — and phones are becoming more laptop-like these days), it would be difficult for me to make a purchase. I know that BlackBerry phones typically haven’t had demo handsets in the past at Rogers stores, but I hoped that when RIM saw the Apple strategy, things would change.

I’ve been considering switching to Rogers to be able to get the new iPhone. I called Telus to see what it would cost if I canceled my plan. I’m only 1 year into my 3 year contract and so it’ll cost me $500. In other words, getting the new iPhone would cost me $200 (cost of iPhone) + $500 (cancellation fee from Telus) = $700. I’ll be honest, I did consider it for a split second…

Also, it seems that Telus will not be getting the Blackberry Bold. But, the representative who I spoke to did tell me that the HTC Diamond and the Blackberry Thunder will be coming to Telus (but then again, who knows…).

So, the other day, my dad sends me a text message saying that he got an iPhone… wtf?

a) text message?

b) iPhone?

Alright, so, what’s wrong with this picture? I don’t even have an iPhone -not available in Canada &  Telus [CDMA] has me locked in for 3 years- and now my dad [living in New York] does :) Not only that, I didn’t even know my dad knew what a text message was!

At the end of the day, wow! The iPhone has really led a revolution… everyone’s buying them (not only techies)… but, it is also leading people to try new things… I just learned that my dad now accesses facebook through his phone… hmmm…

As the advertisement above shows, we may be seeing the iPhone a lot sooner than I had originally assumed. If you’ve had a chance to play with the iPhone, you’ll have realized what an amazing toy it is. If you think about it, you probably payed $200+ for you iPod and now you can get an iPod, Camera, and Phone all in one. Good deal, yes. The user interface is also genius.

However, I dislike the fact that even though the Canadian Currency is worth more than the American Dollar, that the price of this phone is still a lot higher in Canada. The phone is about $120 USD more expensive in Canada. Not only that, data charges are a lot higher in Canada so you can’t really use the phone to its fullest. Should Canadians be angry, yes.

Steve Jobs, since the very beginning, was looking to beat IBM. That moment has finally come. At the current stock price of $186 per share, Apple is worth $162 Billion, whereas IBM is worth $159 Billion. A true milestone in history indeed.

Everyone has heard of the iPhone and how fast it is gaining in popularity. Here are some interesting stats recently revealed by Apple:

1) 1.4 Million iPhones have been sold in a little over 3 months. That’s roughly 16,000 iPhones a day!!! It took over 2 years for Apple to sell that number of iPods…

2) Apple believes that it can sell 10 million iPhones by the end of the year.

btw, if you are looking to purchase an unlocked iPhone in Canada, a friend recently gave me word that he had a few extra ones on hand that he was looking to sell. Again, message me on facebook for more information…
